Each client has a set number of sessions provided by their employer, and it’s important you and your client are being mindful of these limits. In exceptional circumstances, employers will agree to funding additional sessions where there is a clinical need and often when the issues are linked to work. Before requesting more sessions, consider discussing alternatives like switching to self-pay or exploring other resources for support.
The first step when considering additional sessions is to reach out to our Support team before discussing the possibility of additional sessions with the client. The Support team will confirm if there is specific criteria set by the client’s employer. Once you’ve reviewed the criteria and confirmed the client fits, you can proceed with submitting the formal request through the Support team here. It is important to submit your request with enough time for us forward it to the employer for review, as approvals can take time.
Some employers require specific information for additional sessions, so our Support team may follow up with questions to gather more details before forwarding the request anonymously to the client’s employer. We will keep you informed about the outcome as soon as we hear back.
What happens if the request is denied?
If the additional sessions are denied by the employer you may wish to consider transitioning to self-pay (see our Moving a client to Self-Pay article for more on this process) if appropriate for your client. You may also wish to recommend other alternatives such as possible programs through their health insurance, NHS (in UK), charitable organisations, etc.
